John 15:16 says, “You didn’t choose me, I chose you.”

In other words, you were chosen, by God, to receive His free gift of salvation. When someone gives you a gift, do you ask that person how much you owe him or her? No! The appropriate response to a gift is THANK YOU! What God’s word is telling us is that Heaven is a “free gift” and this gift cannot be earned nor is it deserved. You can never be good enough to get into Heaven, you can never go to church enough, you can never follow all the rules enough, you can never do anything enough. While all those things are worthwhile, only by accepting Jesus Christ and the price He paid for our Salvation can you receive the gift.

God made a choice to send His Son to die for our sins, so that by believing in Him, we might live. Jesus made a choice to follow His Father’s plan by dying on the cross to pay for our Salvation. The choice is now up to us, to believe, to ask for His forgiveness, and to give our lives to Him so that He might save us. If you would like to follow His Directions and accept His forgiveness, you can do that by making the choice to pray this simple prayer right now,

“Lord, I am a sinner, and I know that I am lost. But I am trusting in the directions You have given me in order to be saved. I believe that You sent your Son, Jesus Christ to die for my sins. I believe that He was raised from death to be with You, and to prepare a place for me. Jesus, please come into my heart and change me. Help me to turn from my sins and turn to living for You. I now place my life and my trust in You and You alone for my salvation. I choose to live for You and to accept your gift of eternal life”.

If you prayed that prayer, Jesus has come into your life and it will never be the same. He will guide you through whatever trials you may face. By putting all your faith and trust in Him, you are not lost, you are not empty, you now have Directions for the Journey of your life.

John 15:5 tells us, “Apart from me you can do nothing”

Philippians 4:13 promises, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”.

1 John 4:9-10 tells us, “God showed how much He loved us by sending His only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through Him. This is real love. It is not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins”.
God would rather die than live without you!

John 3:16 is God’s promise of this, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but will have eternal life”.

Maybe you’re asking, “How can it be that simple?” Unfortunately, much about Salvation has been affected by the world also. It has been made into some thing that has to be achieved. It has been made into a set of rituals and rules. Again, the world has used its camouflage to trap us into not listening to the truth, into stumbling through the darkness, searching for something more complicated.
God wants you to understand and use His Direction to get through the darkness, to the truth.

In John 8:12, Jesus said, “I am the light of the world, if you follow me, you won’t be stumbling through the darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life”.

In John 14:6, Jesus tells us, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me”.

God’s invitation to His gift of everlasting life through His Son, Jesus Christ is the most important event in our lives. We can go through this life searching, hunting for something else, deceiving ourselves into believing all the lies that this world has to offer, rationalizing all the events in our lives to keep us from believing the truth. But the truth is there, the true Compass, Jesus Christ, continues to point the way. It would be unwise not to follow a compass when you are lost in the wilderness, not to believe in the directions it gives you. How much more unwise is it not to follow the One that points to everlasting life, Jesus Christ?
